RÖPPENTYŰ STREET RESIDENTIAL BUILDING

The location is a 160-metre-long, 55-metre-wide plot bounded by Rákos Creek, Röppentyű utca and Rozsnyai utca. The mass of the B+G+4-storey building is characterised by a long wing parallel to Röppentyű utca — this is divided by four lift-staircase shafts — and by four perpendicular courtyard wings. The former ones are arranged around landings, the latter ones have a hanging corridor system.
We were aiming to create many useable-sized terraces, where the traffic noise from the street is not noticeable. The cars which belong to the apartments can be parked in the underground garage. This way on the surface there is only green area belonging to the apartments. There are 153 apartments, their sizes range from one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half rooms. During design, defining the rhythm of the wings extending into the yard and the airspace ratio between the building masses was subject to careful consideration. The hanging corridor sections with variable width, are completed with reinforced-concrete flowerpots here and there, strong enough to hold larger vegetation. We unconventionally placed knee-height windowsills in the living/dining rooms opening toward the street facade. The architectural language is simple due to the small budget: raised or lifted ledges, colourful in-lays, terrace supporting walls.
