“Our future will be as today’s schooling.” Szent-Györgyi Albert

The most difficult and primary question of the planning was the notion of how we imagine today’s schooling; the days of students and teachers; and how we can create proper and inspiring environments and spatial situations. When examining the built-in, not only was it important to further continue the values of an established pattern, but to continue the already begun phases with exciting inner courts and inner lighting installations. The existing main building chose a peculiar built-in. While the main facade adjusts to the neighbours like a traditional Budapest street view on Vas utca, the wings on the inner court ignore the neighboring fire-walls. The built-in can be characterised with grand, narrow masses with large inner height. Our proposal in detail and in depth is a logical re-thinking of the connecting buildings. The differences derive from the new functions, the high comfort requirements and the simplified architectural tools of today. The new building on Szenkirályi utca supplies important deficiencies: the university is barrier-free, you can walk around it on all levels, it supplies a gymnasium, three large auditoriums, five classrooms, and a dozen new special labs. It continues the main building’s formula, where the main premises are aligned around the court, and the lane of the corridor clamps them together by an arc. Emphasis was placed on keeping the inner garden’s liberality and proportions.
