The designed building had to make up for the visible lack of urban fabric by creating a logicaltransition to the connecting buildings. On the courtyard side the regulation plan allowed an interior ground floor plus two-storey mass, which could be linked well to the building. Weconsciously tried to lighten the building by placing the mass on legs and creating an underpassage. This let some air into the interior as well.
Originally on the plot there was a ground floor house of the sculptor Ede Telcs, designed byLajos Kozma in 1928. With the design of the new building it had to be accepted, that in theplace of the old house the situation of site development and urban structure has fundamentallychanged and the new construction requires a completely new cubature and approach. However we were consciously trying to create some kind of cultural continuity in tribute toLajos Kozma, who we feel professionally close to. As a memory of Ede Telcs, we rescued hisSaint Florian statue from the old building, restored it and placed it on the new facade…
