Mártonhegy Villa Park

The site is located in an exposed part of Budapest’s 12th district, next to Farkasrét Cemetery. We won the commission through an invited design competition. The development was adjusted to the scale of the surrounding villa-like buildings; accordingly, the planned 48 apartments were placed in five separate buildings, which are connected both by the underground garage and, at ground-floor level, by a system of canopies.
Here, as in many of our other buildings designed for similarly high standards on sloping sites, the most important considerations were fitting the development into the terrain, achieving the appropriate scale, ensuring the optimal orientation of the shared facilities — in this case, a sauna — and of every apartment, opening them towards the views.
The floor plans, massing and façades were finalised after long and careful consideration, with the active involvement of the client. The five buildings are based on three different types. A certain novelty, perhaps, is the use of curved floor-plan lines on the more solid sections of the volumes, which gave the buildings a surprisingly strong character.
The task was not simple. During the permitting process, the design was praised by the Central Design Review booad, but the authority accepted our calculations only after several months of consultation, ultimately acknowledging their correctness.
