Our Joint Competition Entry with BIG Wins First Prize in the Design Competition for the Hungarian Natural History Museum
It is a great honour for us that our joint proposal with the Danish-based BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group won first prize in the invited design competition for the new Hungarian Natural History Museum in Debrecen.
In addition to ten invited offices — five Hungarian and five international — four further architectural practices were given the opportunity to participate in the prestigious competition. The competition, launched last September by Debreceni Infrastruktúrafejlesztő Kft., aimed to design the new exhibition building and surroundings of the Hungarian Natural History Museum in a way that would organically connect to Debrecen’s Great Forest and the Culture Park.
“The Natural History Museum must become part of nature.”
We are grateful for the opportunity to work together and are pleased to have been part of this exciting competition process. We congratulate all award-winning, placed and purchased entries on their high-quality proposals.
Further information about the process of working together with BIG and the experiences of the design process can be found in hely.hu’s interview with András Vikár. The conversation also reveals what it is like to work with a foreign office, and how András thinks about the role of museums today. The interview is available here.
