ALKOTÁS STREET OFFICE BUILDING

The designed building had to make up for the visible lack of urban fabric by creating a logical transition to the connecting buildings. On the courtyard side the regulation plan allowed an interior ground floor plus two-storey mass, which could be linked well to the building. We consciously tried to lighten the building by placing the mass on legs and creating an under passage. This let some air into the interior as well.
Originally on the plot there was a ground floor house of the sculptor Ede Telcs, designed by Lajos Kozma in 1928. With the design of the new building it had to be accepted, that in the place of the old house the situation of site development and urban structure has fundamentally changed and the new construction requires a completely new cubature and approach. However we were consciously trying to create some kind of cultural continuity in tribute to Lajos Kozma, who we feel professionally close to. As a memory of Ede Telcs, we rescued his Saint Florian statue from the old building, restored it and placed it on the new facade…
