GRAPHISOFT PARK NORTH
Proposal for the construction of the northern areas of Graphisoft Park
Thanks to the rapid growth of Graphisoft Park, the central ring is fully developed, and in the past years it could only expand toward the southern areas. By today it has room for small scale investments. The Park examined the possibilities of the construction of the northern areas of the gas plant regarding future endeavours. This area was neglected because of its industrial contamination, but it is a very exciting site because of its close vicinity to the Danube and its monuments. The iconic gas plant towers stand on the site, furthermore a heating and laboratory building and a generator house with its full equipment. These four buildings clearly designate the area’s center of gravity and axes, we did not have anything else to do but fill the gaps and give frame for the build-up.
Our design’s preliminary examples include the Cságoly house – like many Graphisoft houses, but its scale cannot be sustainable with the large office buildings programs. We placed two buildings along the bank, which buildings scale heighten towards the north. They show a transition between the southern villa buildings, and the northern large office buildings. The buildings continue a tentacle-like build-up pattern. The wings of the buildings reach toward the water, so each tenant may enjoy the panoramic view of the Danube. With time the trees will grow stronger and the brief façades will line up on the shore as if the villas were to continue along. Our facades immortalize the vibe that is so specific to the park, which are implied in the yellow and red bricks, avant-corps, and densely divided large glass surfaces. According to requirements of today, we replaced the small brick walls with large prefab décor-concrete elements and cover the building with it like the old glass-divisions. This cloth seems homogenous from a remote distance, implying the flexibility of the office function, getting closer you may notice that the fabric’s threads sometimes widen sometimes narrow, growing thinner and thicker than a hand-woven sack.
